A smaller than expected, but select, group of hashers traveled by bus and car through the rain to Kassab last Friday. As I did not travel on the bus I can only report second hand how much everyone who did appreciated the extra 40 minutes for conversation at Al Jalaa while they waited for latecomers, including Hazar (who was also the very last person to leave the hotel the next day) and the leisurely breakfast stop just outside of Damascus. Traveling by car, we left 2 hours later and arrived an hour before the bus, and were entertained by scintillating two way radio conversation between Morning After (Ken1) and Seli along the way.
Once everyone had arrived, Wise Pranker announced the program, which (surprisingly to some of us [i.e. those who hadn't bothered to look at the details for the weekend posted on the website!!!]) included a run that very afternoon. As reported later by Minstrel Cycle in his (weather abbreviated) Hash Critique, the location was excellent, views were great, the weather was well organised but the route was (to say the least) slightly confusing with at least two complete double backs and a few false trails which seemed to be indicated only by a single rather aimless daub of paint. However the hare [Wise Pranker] did try to keep us on track, and given that the route was very much a solo effort "made up as he went along", the overall rating was 8/10.
The wind rose and the temperature dropped during the down down, during which we paid tribute to the hares [Wise Pranker for the 'runners' and Teddy Bear for the walkers], at least four hash virgins (including one who claimed no one made him cum) and various other sundry criminals - some 90% of the runners were assassinated.
The evening was filled with drinking, dinner, drinking, dancing, and more drinking, and a few of us, including Horse's Arse (making another appearance with Bum Deal at the Damascus hash), Rowdy and Morning After were apparently the last to bed, with a few accusations of late night singing being made against us the next day.
Amazingly, almost everyone managed to get up for the beach trip on Saturday (Cunning Stunt was a notable absentee) and, in great sunny weather, we made the expedition along the cliff tops to the "best beach in Syria" where most of us had a swim and a few of went exploring (and singing) in caves. After an exhausting climb back up the cliff - good job we took a rope, Morning After and Wise Pranker needed to hold on to it all the time- we returned to the hotel and then departed to the excellent fish restaurant (Abou Said) for lunch before racing home to watch the rugby (or get a shower, etc., depending on priorities).
