With Diplomaniac preparing for her ladies' break in Dubai, this week's scribing duties fall to the RA (what's wrong with Arthur? - you may well ask).
Some 35 hashers gathered at one of the Abujian's farms in Saidnaya (it seems they have ten of these) on unusually flat terrain, for the Hash. The Hares were Mardek, Alexander and Mayssa, who set a fine loop across the fields, up a hill and down through more fields back to the farm. Virgin Tony, from somewhere in Ohio, twisted an ankle but was able to continue while Julian, having no such ailment this time, could not decide whether to go with the runners or the walkers and ended up doing a bit of both. Littlejohn thought he had made a militarily significant find of a tank crew helmet but it turned out to be nothing more than part of a car headlamp. Ah well, if the army is short of helmets they can go to the car scrapyards! Still, Karen's contribution of a rusty fuel can was apposite.
Back at the farm we had a selection of fruits to choose from - apricots, blackberries, blueberries were all ripe but we will have to come back for the figs later in the season - while the barbecue was lit and salad preparations got underway, courtesy of Hozar.
This time the circle convened before the sun went down and Diplomaniac carefully avoided the ice, as did everyone else (Rafi - we need more occupants!). Down downs went to the hares, a few virgins, including the aforesaid Ohioan, an Arabic student, 24-hour visitor Mike, who is working with Richard on the gas pipeline and a couple of young friends/relations of the Abujians. We had a few returners, whose renewed presence earned them a delicious Barada cocktail: Manou, Lucy and Antoine (the latter fresh from becoming a Canadian citizen). Manou complained that he had not been given a 300-hash t-shirt - I suppose you have to be there to get one.......
Down-downs also went to Arthur for finding enough pressure to fertilise at least 3 trees (or was he moving from one to the other to avoid the ribald comments from the holding hashers?) and to Julian for being confused about running or walking. There were pleas for Wise Pranker to drink out of his other new shoe, but these came to nothing.
We were treated to an excellent post-circle barbecue, with contributions from chef Wise Pranker, salad maker Hozar, carrot cake baker Huda and probably others. Sharif had his usual tasty - and home made - appetisers for those who found their way to them. Dessert was provided in the way of fresh apricots from the farm, along with Huda's cake.
On On
Littlejohn
