Hash Trash for Run No. 1386 - 12 January 2007

Run Number 1386 (or 14 minutes to two) started like most others. A bright sunny day out in some rural area whose name escapes me (the one where I always get lost going through the village on the way back, whoever is driving!). A small but select band of runners and walkers took to the fields in search of blue paint. This being one of Wise Pranker's runs there wasn't much to be found - does he get a refund for returning unused paint? In fact on several occasions the hare resorted to leading the pack, or at least pointing the way. On at least one occasion the trail appeared to be laid on (or under, claimed the hare) a sheep, with the result that several twists and turns were not marked. A down down was definitely in order for that one. The other hazards were barking dogs who thought we were sheep, perhaps; and the odd gunshot, from some farmer warning us off his land? or maybe it was the anti-aircraft gun we drove past on the way in looking for some easy target practice! The other hazard was the risk of heart failure, since there were only two hold checks (out of 5 checks) - definitely a good run.

45 minutes later it was all over and time for hot wine, even hotter soup and as a special treat, toasted marshmallows from Kayleigh, who was bouncing like a kangaroo after all that sugar. Down downs went to the ever reliable hares (Wise Pranker and Mrs Pranker for the walkers); virgins Jan, Samara, Cliff and Guido, who claim they will come back; returners Square Root and Ryan; boaster Ryan again for claiming that his ability to find the right trail was due to some innate wisdom rather than bribing the hare like the rest of us; Wise Pranker for the aforementioned sheep shagging incident; Lost & Found and "Luther" for hashing in the nude (well, T-Shirts and shorts at minus 60 degrees is pretty much the same thing). The pack trooped off home as the sun went down, before the oil froze in the vehicles. Needless to say, following Sharif, who claimed to know a "short cut" to avoid the mysterious and confusing village, we ended up stuck behind a crane for 20 minutes....
