Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the long-awaited return of the Hash Trash. After months in hibernation and meditation at a secret hideout near the North Pole the Hash Trash has emerged as an ascended being ready to bestow wisdom and chocolate upon the world (apart from the chocolate) (and the wisdom).
Run 1423 (or just after 20 minutes past 2) was a hash like many others, set by Paul at Saidnaya. Those of us who are used to trying to second guess the hare were in for a real treat. Since Paul's trails usually include random, unmarked changes of direction we spent the first half looking any and everywhere for the trail. Either he fooled us deliberately or all those down downs from Arthur are starting to take effect, since the trail was generally in a straight line from the previous paint! Just as we had got used to that he went back to his old ways and reinstated the random direction changes, so we remained confused for the rest of the trail. There were no dead dogs or even live ones on this trail, no head in a bag, no dismembered trunk of a man in his late 50s... (Monty Python fans may recognise the last 2 phrases) but lots of good scenery, trees, spiky things and good running. At the third hold check we amused ourselves by using rocks to crack our nuts (actually they were the farmer's nuts and he was not happy). Paul outdid himself by using no paint at all (or so it seemed) but we eventually found our way back to the cars and even beat the walkers. They have agreed not to press charges and the bruises should fade in a few days.
Your humble and extremely modest scribe acted as RA in Arthur's absence and made up a string of spurious anniversaries and calendars - nobody noticed. Hares Paul and Sausan were duly celebrated in liquid form. Virgins Luis, Sara, Mehmaz and Axel and returners Teysir (after 16 years - apparently he forgot where the Al Jallaa is and has been looking every Friday for the past 10 years...) and Bianca who has only missed 4 months ("because of the heat...") all got their just desserts.
Wielding the absolute and superhuman power that comes with the post of RA I was able to find crimes where others had failed to notice Luis, Sara and Teysir were confused about whether they were runners or walkers ("hoppers" maybe?); Eric, Axel & Bianca for too obviously acting on what we had all realised - that none of the false trails were marked - so as soon as On On 1 was called they abandoned the search; Eric again for finally being fitted with the obligatory GI Joe watch so that he can be remote controlled by the CIA; Gert in his traditional sex maniac role for coming with Bianca; and Guido for incontinence.... sorry inconsistency, for finally finding the right trail when we have gotten used to him always getting the falsies.
After the usual great food from Sausan we headed home into the sunset, following other people who didn't know the way....
