Hash Trash for Kassab Hash 1428 - 2 & 3 November 2007
A
select group of hard core hashers (the hashcore?) made it to the Al
Jallaa for the 8:30 departure of the bus. For those of you who
had booked then dropped out, shame on you, you missed another great
weekend. After the usual long and boring bus ride we reached
Nirvana (the hotel, not the spiritual state) around 1:30 to meet up
with Paul & Rafi. After checking in we headed to the
traditional kick off site for the run.
Run 1428 was up in the clouds, or at least the clouds came down to meet
us. We had a shock in the briefing - Paul claimed that he had
actually marked one of the false trails with an X - we never found it,
though. Paul showed that he is not called Wise Pranker for
nothing by avoiding the usual start (turn right off the road up into
the hills). For some reason (shaky hands?) he used more paint on
this run than in his last 5 put together. Good thing too since we
couldn't see more than 20 meters ahead in some places. The usual
stunning scenery (when we could see it) and sneaky trails (we never saw
them), plus some hills that Arthur would have enjoyed if he had been
there (I almost believed be had sneaked up here to lay the trail before
heading out on holiday). At one stage we lost the trail
completely but met up with the walkers instead for an unscheduled hold
check.
Down Downs were held as it got dark - after Paul & Rafi (for taking
the walkers) as hares, there were the following crimes: Charles
"Pinball Wizard" for being, like Tommy, deaf (to shouts to come back),
dumb (for finding the trail and keeping quiet about it) and blind
(running right past the first check); Guido, the "misguided one" for
his usual trick of always finding the false trails (remind me never to
follow him...); Gert the "hashturbator" for sex on the hash...by
himself; Rafi for misleading the walkers so they arrived back after the
runners for a change; and nominations from the pack: Miguel, Charles,
Paul and Carlos (the last 2 for insider trading - Paul told Carlos
where the trail was, though even then he couldn't find it!).
We made it back to the hotel before our extremities froze off and had
the usual excellent and massive dinner (thank you Nirvana) and
music. There was pre-dinner "entertainment" from me and my
guitar, though I managed to avoid breaking anything this year and no
one threw anything at me - went on a bit because I was waiting for
dinner to be served while the waiters were waiting (that is their job,
after all) for me to stop! Rumour has it that after dinner Rafi
and Gert joined the wedding party in the next room, like the movie
"Wedding Crashers". I'm not sure if Gert needed all the 6 beds in
his room, however.
Next day after breakfast it was down to the beach. The keenest
continued the tradition of running the last 8.6 km downhill (I am still
suffering as a result). Those who have been before will be glad
to hear that the last 30m of the path to the beach is now much easier
and we didn't need the rope (except to tie up Charles & Carlos to
stop them from getting too far ahead as FRBs). Luckily the beach
was empty and much cleaner than last year. Gert lost his swimming
costume and entertained the fishes by skinny dipping. Carlos
meanwhile went the other way and decided to go for a walk in the water
with his shoes and socks on.
Back to the hotel (surprisingly no one wanted to run back up the hill)
for fish before the long bus journey home. A first in Kassab
history, we made it back just after 20:00 - the driver was so keen we
went straight past the Laurel soap and honey shop and had to turn back
so a certain female hasher could get her beauty soap... Of course,
Yvonne claimed she really wanted honey for Gabrielle but no one really
believed that...
We need a hare for next week so if you want to volunteer please let
Paul or Rafi know. Usual time at the Al Jallaa (12:30 departure).
On on
