Hash Trash for the Amathus H3 1000th Run Weekend around Limasol in Cyprus - 14-16 October 2005

An intrepid group of (up to) 11 Damascus hashers traveled to Cyprus to participate in the celebrations of the Amathus H3 1000th run over the weekend of 14-16 October. Your correspondent and his missus set off a day early to ensure things went smoothly but managed to not locate the hotel were registrations were taking place on the Thursday night until too late - nevertheless we had a few beers with some of the Amathus and other visiting hashers who were still around the bar at the time.

All of the Damascus hashers made it and most took part in the 998 run on Friday afternoon at Kalavasos Dam, which was reported to be a good long and hard one, with some spectacular views. Unfortunately your correspondent was at the airport at the time, picking up his pups, but by a quirk of fate we were able to make the down down.

The down downs were quite a significant part of the weekend, with much singing (and of various songs, not just the "they are hashers..." that we manage in Damascus), boat races, and huge numbers of punishments, etc.

The mismanagement was generally very good - beer was transported around in a huge caravan, and the hashers by antique buses so there was no practical limitation to the amount drunk. Around 150-200 people attended each hash including many from various UK hashes (50+ from Cheltenham alone), other island hashes and small numbers from various overseas hashes.

Fuzzy Duck, lately of the Damascus Hash and now traveling between the UK and Azerbaijan, joined White Trashed and Trash Collector, Rowdy, Ogunu and family, and your correspondent and family on the hash and for drinks and dinner that evening, and a few of us ended up touring the Irish bars of Limassol into the wee hours.

The 999 run on Saturday was at a venue called Parakleisha which was a good run and an excellent long winded down down - practically everyone was called into the circle, followed by a Hash Thrash at a restaurant at Governors Beach that evening- plenty of eating, drinking and merry making again, and again buses provided, so an opportunity for a group sing song on the way home.

The 1000 run itself at a spot named Melanda Beach was unfortunately bighted by bad weather - rain, mostly light, but turning to thunderstorms immediately after an abbreviated but entertaining down down. The run itself had easy and hard options- only a few of us brave souls took the hard way, which included a few scrambling sections and a long scenic downhill on in next to the coast. And it was a very long (and tiring!) run. However, everyone seemed to have a good time.

As we departed, wet and exhausted, to go our various ways, plans were being hatched to go to the World Hash in Thailand next year...
